We agree that fat is the main contributor to weight gain due to which Fat gets a bad reputation even though it is a nutrient that is needed in our diet, just not too much.
So, does our body needs fat?
Yes, it does. Dietary fats are essential to give your body energy and to support cell growth. They also help protect your organs and help keep your body warm. Fats help your body absorb some nutrients and produce important hormones, too. Your body definitely needs fat. There are nine calories in every gram of fat. Fats are more energy-dense than carbohydrates and proteins.
Even though consuming high levels of calories – regardless of the source – can lead to weight gain, fats are essential. So do not be afraid to go back to fat. Just make sure they are properly portioned and are healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts etc.
